Vaccines FAQs

What are pet vaccinations?

Pet vaccines are injected into the skin of your pet. They contain dead or inactive versions of a harmful disease or virus. This allows your pet's body to build up enough antibodies to be protected against several diseases. These diseases include distemper, parvovirus, hepatitis, parainfluenza, and rabies among others. Both cats and dogs can be affected by these diseases, so dog vaccines and cat vaccines are available to prevent them from becoming infected or having symptoms that are not as dangerous.

How often do I need pet vaccines?

Pet vaccines will need to be administered as early as 6 weeks, then at 12 and 18 weeks old, and thereafter every one to three years. Every vaccine is different, so it's best to get your pet to visit a veterinarian for additional information on the vaccines that they need. Your vet will also keep you informed on when to vaccinate your pet again, and safely issue vaccines. Although rare, reactions can occur after a vaccine is administered. Your vet will keep a  close on your pet and examine them for any negative reactions after their shot.
